What kind of cuisine does L'Orcio serve?
L'Orcio serves contemporary Italian cuisine inspired by the diverse culinary regions of Italy. Chef Francesco d'Amuri draws on traditional Italian recipes – from handmade ricotta gnocchi and pappardelle to classic dishes like Carbonara and Amatriciana – and frequently puts his own spin on them, balancing regional authenticity with his own culinary perspective. The result is Italian cooking that is rooted in tradition but never stuck in it.
What is the history of the L'Orcio building?
L'Orcio is located in a historic 19th-century home at 806 State Street in New Haven, Connecticut. The building, constructed in 1889, is one of the few remaining examples of Queen Anne Victorian architecture in the area. Chef Francesco and Alison De Renzi opened L'Orcio here in 2003, breathing new life into the space while honoring its history. In the early years, the couple lived in the apartment above the restaurant – the building was their home in every sense of the word.

What dining spaces are available at L'Orcio?
L'Orcio offers several distinct dining spaces. Our main dining room on the ground floor seats guests in a warm, intimate setting inside our historic State Street home. The second floor dining room is available for both regular dining and private parties. Our back courtyard is one of New Haven's most beloved outdoor dining destinations – a tucked away garden patio with twinkling lights, flowers, and a fountain, open seasonally for al fresco dining. Walk ins are welcome at the bar and throughout the restaurant, inside and out.
Are all pastas made from scratch at L'Orcio?
Yes. L'Orcio is a scratch kitchen. Pastas – including handmade ricotta gnocchi, pappardelle, ravioli, and more – are made fresh by hand every day. Desserts, including our tiramisu, are also made in house. Chef Francesco's approach to cooking starts with quality ingredients and the kind of preparation that cannot be shortcut.
